About the Programme

Bridging the MedTech Valley of Death

India imports nearly 70% of its medical devices by value, and close to 80% of MedTech startups fail between Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3 and 6 — not for lack of innovation, but for lack of the infrastructure, expertise, and institutional support required to navigate the build.

BFI NAMAH at IKP is a direct institutional response to that gap. The Nailwal MedTech Acceleration Hub, a core programme under BFI's Innovation Full Stack, is anchored at IKP Knowledge Park — leveraging IKP's SmartFab product realization infrastructure, the IKP Global Regulatory Forum (IGRF), IKP COMPASS — Compliance-as-a-Service, and a mature network of clinical, testing, and manufacturing partners.

The programme adopts a milestone-driven, stage-gated approach to systematically de-risk product development — enabling innovators to move from prototype to regulatory approval with clarity, speed, and confidence.

Three Capability Pillars
  • P·01
Engineering & Manufacturing TranslationPrecision prototyping and production-realistic manufacturing with design-for-manufacturing logic embedded from day one, through SmartFab.
  • P·02
Regulatory & Certification BackboneISO 13485-compliant QMS, CDSCO / MDR 2017 pathway navigation, and regulatory readiness positioned as a build accelerator — not a terminal bottleneck.
  • P·03
Clinical Pathway & ValidationHospital networks for clinical validation and a district-level deployment pathway to take proven products to scale.
Programme Scope

Where NAMAH Operates

Technology Readiness Levels define the progression of medical technologies from ideation to commercial deployment. The mid-TRL phase is the most demanding — requiring design refinement, validation, regulatory readiness, and pilot manufacturing. NAMAH operates across this critical span, advancing innovations toward pre-commercialisation and market entry.

What We Do

Fully-Funded, End-to-End MedTech Product Realisation

Accepted innovators gain access to a comprehensive ecosystem built for end-to-end MedTech translation:

Prototyping

Rapid prototyping across mechanical, electronics, and biomedical domains — 3D printing, CNC machining, PCB assembly, injection moulding, and an ISO 7 clean room biomedical lab.

Design for Manufacturing

CAD modelling, simulation, and DFM strategy to move designs from prototype to production-ready — scaling to batch and low-volume manufacturing.

Regulatory Consulting & Advisory

Structured guidance through CDSCO, MDR 2017, device classification, MD-12/MD-13 applications, and licensing — via the IKP Global Regulatory Forum (IGRF) and IKP COMPASS — Compliance-as-a-Service.

ISO 13485 & Quality Systems

Early implementation of QMS, risk management (ISO 14971), biocompatibility (ISO 10993), DHF/DMR documentation, and GMP readiness.

Testing & Validation Partners

Access to NABL-accredited labs, EMI/EMC test centres, BIS certification pathways, and standardized pre-clinical validation protocols.

Clinical Networks

Connections to hospitals, clinicians, and medical college incubation centres for clinical evaluation, pilot studies, and real-world validation.

IP & Tech Transfer Support

IP landscaping, prior-art searches, patentability assessments, and technology transfer guidance from the earliest stages.

Subject Matter Expertise

Dedicated technical handholding from engineers, regulatory specialists, and translational experts across the product journey.

Commercialisation Support

Market access, manufacturing partnerships, fundraising, and investor connect through IKP's structured commercialisation network.

Healthcare Focus Areas

Priority Technology Domains

NAMAH prioritises high-impact domains where India has strong unmet clinical needs, high import dependence, and clear opportunities for translation and scale-up.

In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD)Laboratory and point-of-care assays for infectious diseases, NCDs, and population screening.
Imaging & Optical DiagnosticsMicroscopy, imaging systems, and optical sensing for diagnosis and clinical decision support.
Point-of-Care DevicesPortable, rapid diagnostic and monitoring tools for decentralised and resource-limited settings.
Implants & Active DevicesOrthopedic, cardiovascular, and other implantable or electrically active devices requiring stringent quality control.
SaMD & SiMDAI- and software-driven diagnostic and therapeutic solutions, integrated with hardware or operating independently.
Assistive & Rehabilitation TechnologiesDevices supporting mobility, recovery, and long-term care — particularly for ageing populations and chronic conditions.
Who Can Apply & How
